Chinese National Day is celebrated on October 1, to commemorate the founding of the People’s Republic of China. In China, ”Golden Week” is a seven days holiday that affects production and transports.

As we approach Golden Week and October 1, importers are rushing to finish production and make pre-golden week sailings which will drive up prices for both ocean and air freight.
Carriers might be more overbooked than usual, which will likely result in cargo being rolled. Trucking services are in higher demand which will also bring up the prices for trucking at the origin.
We’ll also see blank sailings immediately after Golden Week because factories will be closed during the holiday, this will be announced by carriers in order to optimize vessel utilization.
Prepare for the Golden week
  • It is a good idea to book your shipments well in advance, prior to Golden Week. This to ensure that your cargo will arrive well in time for the winter holidays.
  • For ocean shipments: Book 2-3 weeks prior to October 1st and Golden Week
Be flexible:
  • Choose routes with longer transit times, on the upside, your cargo is less likely to roll
  • Consider an alternate port of discharge. This might give you more options when choosing sailing
  • Use the Adnavem Marketplace to support your work to explore routes and prices in order to make a good forecast booking your shipments ahead of time
The facts
  • October 1st 1949 was the memorial day for the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
  • One thing should be noted is that the PRC was not founded on that day. The actual Chinese independence day was September 21st 1949.
  • The grand ceremony held at Tiananmen Square on October 1st 1949 was to celebrate the forming of the Central People's Government of the brand new country.
  • On October 2nd 1949, the new government passed the ‘Resolution on the National Day of the People's Republic of China’ and declared October 1 to be the Chinese National Day.
  • Ever since 1950, every October 1st has been grandly celebrated by Chinese people
